Christmas!

Hello people!

Christmas is just around the corner!

meaning that school is about to end..... Really? where has the year gone?

Meaning that Summer is here I'm so exited I love summer! ...Who Doesn't?

So what do I do in the holidays?
well i just practically rest, relax all summer long and that just about sums up my whole holidays. except this time were going to our cousins house for lunch on Christmas day, then over to our Grandparents for dinner like we usually do for a tradition each year, then on boxing day our other Grandparents are coming down from Palmerston North to see us.then they're going back up so we can see them in Palmerston North again, and were staying there for a nights, then where going strait to Taronga at a house we rented for 4 nights then to Auckland for 2 nights at our cousins house then to Taupo for 1 night then back to wellington. few!

To be honest I don't really do a lot of Christmas traditions apart from the fact that we usually go up to our Grandparents house in Palmerston North with most of our cousins every second year but this year were staying at our other Grandparents house for dinner

See Ya & Happy holidays (this is my last blog post for the year)

YEAR 8?

Year 8 next year all ready! WOW my whole life at school has been and gone soooooo                   quickly can you believe it..............? I certainly don't so I'm gonna do my very best next                 year to complete my work to a very high standard I mean it and it will be tough.                           Before i move onto collage next, next year! pretty nerve racking!

Year 8 is going to be jam packed will lots of fun and challenging surprises on the way. I know that one of the firsts ones is the high ropes I'm pretty scared of heights but will try to overcome that fear during camp! another one is tests, I want to do my very best in my tests and get good marks. (especially maths!) there's also swimming, athletics and cross country, I want to do well in. And I bet ya there will be more surprises on the way!

But One thing I am really looking forward to next year is CAMP! Camp for the win I'm so excited!...... and nervous of all the challenges we get to do during the time! some of my favorite activity's i'm looking forward to do is... Kayaking, sailing, coasteering, snorkeling, boogie boarding, tramping, confidence coarse, canoeing, caving, river walking and camping.

I just can't wait to be a yr8 it looks sooooooooo fun!

Bye Bye

Speeches #2

Speeches Boy oh boy does it feel good to get it finally over with thank goodness!!

Well I felt I had stumbled on a few sentences a few times and I think I may have missed out a paragraph altogether! I also wonder if I used enough gestures and not have stayed in the same stop the whole time!
                                                  ..
                                                  ~

I didn't feel it went as well as I had planed, and that's usually the story each year I think it will go really well... But really it doesn't there's always something that goes wrong :-(

...................But there is always next year!.................

The Peco Incident     By Des Hunt

Des Hunts book, The Peco Incident is a great book I personally really like it. So the main character is Danny and he is flying over to the Otago Peninsula to stay at his cousins for the summer holidays.

Then suddenly a bird flu started to hit the area, at first it only seemed like it was infecting the sparrows then suddenly spreed to the local chicken farm where chickens were dying by the thousands. but remarkibly a hippie group of tourist alwaws seemes to be around the crime!

What is really going on?

Bye Bye

Speeches

Gulp- Well I'm doing How/Why do leaves change color in autumn an interesting and informative topic. My goals for this years speech are to Speak loud and Clear and to also have lots of visual aids to try to make things interesting.

I'm also doing quite well in terms of finishing my speech I've gust got to write a bit more, edit and also work on the visual aids.

For some people speaking in front of 30 or so kids is quite scary. I mean I can say something little or so in front of that many people but a whole speech.....mmmmm?

So these are the things I'm gonna be working on this year...

-Speaking slow and clear.

-practice body movement.

-Have lots of visual aids.

-And try to relax.

Thank you and Bye Bye!

                               SPACE

Space isn't it interesting? Such an amazing topic, so much to learn and do and sometimes... (really confusing.)
But anyway lets cut to the chase, one of the things that interest me most is the fact that Venus is apparently closer to Earth than Mars! When I was first told this (like a few days ago during our space topic) I was amazed and by the looks of things so does the rest of the class, they're even writing blog posts on it like me!
Mars's orbit

Venus's orbit
So apparently Venus is 42 million kilometers away from the Earth at its closes point, but 258 million kilometers away from its most distinct point. Mars on the other hand is 56 million kilometers away from its closes point.

Good Bye!

My Holiday

You may not know where this but this is where my family and I stayed for 3 nights.
This is Martinborough, and just down the main road a wee bit was the cottage we stayed at for 3 nights.

We drove up here by car to this little place by Graytown. It was only 1h and a bit away from our home in wellington. The first few days were practically chilling, having barbecues with family friends and looking at the shops in Graytown and exploring the parks and streets of Martinborough.

To sum it up it was a great little retreat from the hustle and bustle of the city.

-And to all you who went away on Holiday I hope you had a great time!

See you next time :)

Kate Sheppard

Kate Sheppard on our New Zealand $10 note

This week we have been learning about Parliament and Election and their functions. but today we had a brief discussion about Kate Sheppard. for our follow up activity. To me she sounded really interesting Kate is on our $10 note and her campaigns made New Zealand the first country in the world to let woman vote in 1893. For most other countries, (including Britain and the United States) eventually let woman vote after world war 1.

Good Bye :)

SPORT

My favorite sport is swimming. Because it is so fun and at training we do some pretty cool stuff like relays at the end of the session, or swims, pulls and kicks, all sorts. Any two sessions are never the same. Also at Tawa (the swim squad i swim in) and (the best squad) definitely not (Karori pirates) We do lots of regular swim meets.
It is soooooooo much fun, i really enjoy it and nights of training does get payed of cause every swim meet pretty much i get a pb (personal best time) and is cool seeing how much you improve.

Overall swimming is one of the best things that ever happened to me. sometimes i would wonder where i would be if i didn't do swimming.

Good Bye !!!

PRODUCTION

I'm so excited for our school production, every day it gets closer and closer to the big day. But there's so many things to do in the time. like, our costume for the space cantina scene some people have been chosen from rm 11 and 12  to be apart of the big scene. We have to make cool alien costumes for the accession, and to LEARN MY LINES!!
But I only have to learn a couple of lines so I've got that all sorted with, and also there's the dance. I love being in that dance, its so fun dancing with my friends and all that and were only half way through just another half to go!

See You Next Time! Good Bye :)

Inspirational Songs

My Inspirational song is Roar

The reason why I chose this song is that it is a really good reminder to stand strong and don't let anyone hold you down
You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
And that no matter how much you've been beaten or struck down, you should just get up stand tall, hold your head up high and stand your ground!

     ....And as for the Chorus

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter- The Killer instinct
Dancing through the fire- The confidence!      'Cause I am a champion,-The attitude!
and you're gonna hear me roar-Watch out here I come!!!

     ...And some of the verses

Now I'm floating like a butterfly- Gracious winner! (don't boast)

Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes- Did myself proud!

I went from zero, to my own hero- Did myself proud!

So If you are struck down or or frustrated in your race or competition pick yourself up up and listen to this song!!!

I used to bite my tongue and hold my breath
Scared to rock the boat and make a mess
So I sat quietly, agreed politely
I guess that I forgot I had a choice
I let you push me past the breaking point
I stood for nothing, so I fell for everything

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready 'cause I had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar!

Now I'm floating like a butterfly
Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes
I went from zero, to my own hero

You held me down, but I got up (hey!)
Already brushing off the dust
You hear my voice, your hear that sound
Like thunder, gonna shake the ground
You held me down, but I got up
Get ready 'cause I've had enough
I see it all, I see it now

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar!
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar!

Roar, roar, roar, roar, roar!

I got the eye of the tiger, a fighter
Dancing through the fire
'Cause I am a champion,
and you're gonna hear me roar
Louder, louder than a lion
'Cause I am a champion, and you're gonna hear me roar!

Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar!
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
Oh oh oh oh oh oh oh oh
You're gonna hear me roar!

Egypt ART

This is one of my Egyptian art that rm 11 and 12 did. I think it's really cool and fun to make because we had to go through all these stages of making like the tea staining stage where we tea stained the background, then there was a stage where we then found a picture to copy from and to then do practice sketches in our sketch book before going onto our good copy. when that was all done we then went over everything in sharpie, before we died it with die. Also not to mention I finished first in our class and took to weeks to make. I love art!!!

In this art I chose Anubis as you can see, God of the death was what he was worshiped for. Priests would dress up in Anubis when they mummified important people like pharaohs and kings as they warped them up and put special oils on to help preserve the body

THANKS See You next time !!!!!

Egypt

Egypt more than 3000 thousand years ago, which started out as upper and lower Egypt but then united by the first pharaoh. But what's more, this advanced civilization built to the skies and and worked hard  for the pharaohs to create constructions far from our imagination. Like the most recognizable sculptures such as the Sphinx and the pyramids of giza, are few of what these advanced Egyptians built.
What I mostly learned from was doing my double page spread which some people may think I'm crazy but I actually like doing stuff like that. It was so fun and it made me improve on my Egyptian Knowledge and my Knowledge on word and page layout and the cool art and group activities we did. I just learned heaps like Baboons were trained to climb fig trees to help with the harvests, (They had Baboons in the desert!)       Young boys were paid to be scarecrows! Frightening birds with loud noises and sling shots, the whole purpose of mummification was to preserve the dead person's body, and even the great sphinx was once beautifully coloured with bright reds and blues etc.

Bye Bye For now :)

                       Gymnastics

Every week rm12 walked down to Nairnville
and did some gymnastics.
That were all laid out in a different circuit every week.
some of the circuits were fun, and some challenging,
then we'll  switch to a different course every 12 minutes.

My favorite parts was the rings, the warm up games,
the warm down games and of course the air track.
It was super fun
because we could do all sorts of cool stuff on their
and its also very bouncy!!!

I have to say I improved the most on the beam,
and my posture and balance on it.
Now I can do all sorts of stuff on there!

Catastrophe

One Thing That I Learned This Week

Wow so many things but just what to choose from ? Well I probably have to say Hieroglyphics. they are so cool, its like a secret code language and looks so effective. I think the Egyptians just blow us away I mean, look they're just so advanced for their age. They have built great pyramids and a complicated network system.

I learned it more deeply by doing our art and translating some words onto it was pretty fun. And rote it down a lot to help me remember. I shall always remember because I learned it in a fun fun way..... By doing art!!!
And even if I forget its always going to be up on the wall somewhere to remind me if I can remember where abouts on my painting I put it...

                                          BOOK GROUP

I quite like the book group idea, of how we get into groups, and have meeting, and all tha
I think its really cool. (especially when you get to unlock crackers!)

I was in in the running wild group with Caitlin, Silvia, Sharon, and Andrew nice cooperative people to work with. But some were a bit unreliable, but most of the time they'er pretty good and join in on conversations and remembered to bring food for when we unlocked crackers.

What I gained from the experience is understanding the book a bit more deeply and seeing it from different peoples perspectives.

THE NICKLE NACKLE TREE

The Nickle Nackle Tree by Lynley Dodd is a classic picture book that I used to make my dad read; cause at the time I used to crack up laughing at the different bird illustrations. It was classic drawing reference with so many things to draw, and the most rollicking rhymes to listen to!

"One Ballyhoo bird, kicking up a din.                                                  Two squawking Scritchet birds with legs so twiggy thin.
Three Tittle Tattle birds with twirly curls behind........"

I just love the way that silly nonsense words actually helps paint that picture in your head of what YOU might think the bird looks like... But when you look at the Illustrations inside the book you can really see how different you see things than other people; and don't forget those funny little characteristics each bird has! From lurking to friendly,
from quirkiness to sly, from bashful to sleepy and even those ones in that try to hide!

All of them seem to be somehow squeezed on this one tree, growing Nickle Nackle berries that are red as red can be. But... On this twisted, branch y tree with a jumble jam squeeze, can't always support such a  jam, so it then becomes...............

An OVERLOADED Nickle Nackle tree
