ANZAC'S

(Australia and New Zealand Army Corps)

Hi Guys! I really hope everyone had a great holiday and a good, decant break off school, and are ready to get back into the good-old school routine!

...Now that's out of the way lets get on topic then, so this weeks blog post is about the ANZAC'S. Some people refer to it as the 'spirit of Anzac's.
Anzac is the acronym for Australia and New Zealand Army Corps. (as you may have already found out about in the tile)

This corps was created early in the Great world war of 1914-1918. (WW1) In December 1914 the Australian Imperial Force and New Zealand Expeditionary Force stationed in Egypt, and was under the control of Lieutenant General William Birdwood.

Latter the Anzac's first saw action at Gallipoli on 25th April 1915. The small cove where the our troops landed was what we call now; Anzac cove. With 2700 New Zealanders dead at Gallipoli and 4700 were wounded. In December 1915 the troops were taken off Gallipoli. They did not win but they called themselves heroes.

New Zealand thanks and remembers all its soldiers on Anzac Day.....

Anzac cove during World War 1

Anzac cove now

I learned heaps during our brief Anzac topic, just imagining what those solders went through is just amazing! I can't even believe it, and all they thought was that they were going to go on an over seas adventure! jeez...

I'm glad we celebrate these typos of events it's what makes history, and people definitely should learn about this sort of stuff, so that we never encounter it again! Least we forget!

Goodbye!!!

Before you leave... let me know what sort of war ceremonies you went to in the long weekend in the comments bellow!

For me, I went to the five o'clock show and after that the light show. I also went
in to the museum that just recently opened. It was an awesome experience!

Camp!!!

Hello I'm back one again after being at camp, and this week I'm going to tell all you readers, reading my blog about my super, rocking fun time at camp!
For some of you who may not has noticed.....
I had a really, REALLY fun time at camp. I think everyone did well in ALL the fun activities and had lots of fun at our little 'holiday'.

Highlights.

ALL OF IT!!!!!

Ok now that we've got that question out of the was whats next?
Naaaa just kidding! But if we have to be specific then ill'd say caving
Caving would be by far my most favorite thing out of all the things we did... Maybe not,  well one of the most all time favorite thing we did at camp. Any who Caving Was Awesome.

And it's not because I'm a nature geek, or nerd well I don't know how to to tell them apart but i'm gonna go with hmmmmm nerd, WAIT no geek! Ok where are we ohh yeah, and it's not because I'm a nature geek or anything, but I do like looking at history of rock and learning different types of rocks and finding out how caves formed over the years, and has effected the environment around them. Like In New Zealand solution caves that form in limestone and in marble found in the mountains of many parts of the country. The calcium carbonate (CaCO3) that these rocks are composed of readily dissolves in acid, allowing solution caves to, ummm.  Yeah so the caves were so cool and all the different chambers and obstacles were very cool stufffff.........

      &

Bridge jumping & canoeing and any other water activity, was also In my opinion a highlight of camp.

Bridge jumping- I wasn't too nervous about because I do heaps of wharf jumping and was totally familiar about but canoeing on the other hand, mmmmmmmm not too familiar about. Kayaking I've done heaps before
(for those who doesn't know the difference between those two is that kayaking is by yourself one person or
2 people
and Canoeing is with a number of people tends to be 2+ people)
So that was a new and exiting experience that I had for both of them even bridge jumping.

Not so much Highlights.

Well even though I really enjoyed the camp... There's always a down point! For me It was High ropes.
That's always been a week spot for me, but by doing it I learned an important lesson.

and for a short amount of time IT WORKED!!! (But then chickened out on only the fourth bar)

:'(   -sad face!

Most Challenging?

-HIGH ROPES!          I found that a bit of a challenge because I'm not so good when It comes to Heights. Even though I'm not actually afraid of heights, It's just the fact of being high up in the air like that and my body goes mental and can't handle it. (probably not the best explanation for it.) Also some Parts of the cave, because I'm a bit claustrophobic but I sort of over came my fear of tight spaces while persevering though those tight spaces!

Easy Parts?

-WELL... NOTHING!          I have to admit everything was a bit of a challenge. But some of the easiest activity's would probably be caving (sort of) and Flying Fox But you Know the height thingie wing put me off a little bit.

WAS CAMP WHAT I EXPECTED?

-SORT OF WELL... (NOT REALLY)          Camp was not what I expected well It was a little bit sort of well I don't know. I expected to drive around in van things to get to the activities. Well someone tolled me anyway, To be honest I didn't really have a picture of what camp would be like.

Tips! (for yr 7) and anyone else who gets held back for another year.

#1 Sleep in next days thermals (HELPS ALLOT IN THE MORNING RUSH!!!)

#2 If Oli gets held back for another year DO NOT I repeat DO NOT sleep next to him or there will be sounds all night long (mostly coming from his Butt)

#3 Be early to meals (SHAZZZZZAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!)

#4 Make sure you sleep at the bottom bunk if your not confident at top bunks! (You will fall off if your not confident at sleeping at top!)

#5 Try all the activity's if possible! (You can't go back in time so you'll regret it if you skip an activity!)

Good Bye!!

Group Work Skills!

Teamwork!!

Hello I'm back and and here to talk about Teamwork and group skills!
So if you bothered to read my post about the cricket project Mahon and I just Finnish about Ireland, then you'll know a brief background about our teamwork skills and what we can accomplish.
(which I recommend you reading before this post.)

Any who... Oh Yeah TEAMWORK what a valuable skill to have! One thing to remember is that coming together as a team is only the beginning, keeping the team together is progress, and when your team works together well, then you can call it a success.

As you can see in my little diagram....

   INNOVATION
      SUCCESS
     EVALUATION
DEVELOPMENT
         GROWTH
               SOLUTION
        PROGRESS
         MARKETING

...All the criteria for Teamwork is listed right HERE
(In my non-copied diagram...... That I didn't copy... At all... It came from my amazing brain..... And I Know all the words and their meanings ha ha ha....)                                         (...Nope...)

Back to the Mahon and Tyler team....
I can see now looking at all the stuff we've covered and what Teamwork means and all.
I can see we need a little more help! ... I Only at some areas though! I mean we did pretty
well to cover most of the criteria that we mentioned earlier. Like...
Innnnovavaton or....
Marrrrrketetoning?
and.. Evalotatiuno?

AND THERE'S ALSO
Stuff like success and growth or whatever? Even though we successfully completed the whole research thingie wingie I feel like we could do it more as a team, like discus what were gonna do and stick to the plan all the way through to complete a great project! because mostly we were doing bits of it without the other person or change a couple of things behind the other persons back and to always look at the instruction and stick to what were meant to do, and, and, well we practically suck working together.

On the other hand, my Art group which consists of Catherine and Abby,
(because Oliver and Ethan were traitors!!) But that's alright turns out they're doing this Art idea that I don't really like.

(Sorry I've probably offended alot of people in this post)

Kupe and the Giant Wheke
(Here is the legend if you want to read it)
A long time ago in far away Hawaikii, a Tohunga (a magic man) named Muturangi, sat brooding, thinking of his revenge upon the villagers who had banished him to the far and lonely side of the island.
Muturangi was one day by the water when he came across a wheke (octopus) feeding in the shallows. Quickly using his powers, he charmed the creature and became its master.
Muturangi would send Te Wheke, the octopus, out to catch fish and bring them back for him to eat. One day he had an idea, and told Te Wheke "go to where the villagers set their fishing nets, and take the fish that are caught in their nets, it will be easier than having to catch the fish yourself".
Even with plenty of food, and revenge on the villagers, Muturangi was still unhappy and continued to brood.
The fishermen returned to the village without any fish at all, but worse, the nets had all been damaged, some now useless beyond repair.
"Who is taking our fish" cried one fisherman, "my net, it's ruined" said another. The fishermen where confused so they went to find Kupe, a very respected Maori warrior to ask him what it meant.
"I will go fishing, and see what is destroying our nets and taking our fish" said Kupe. Travelling in his Waka (canoe), Kupe was upon the fishing grounds as te Ra, the sun, slowly rose to start his new journey.
Setting his net, Kupe lay in wait. Only a short time had passed when he noticed a disturbance in the water and then slowly became aware of the presence of magic.
Muturangi! - And he was using this Wheke to wreck the villagers nets and feed himself!
Kupe struck Te Wheke with his Taiaha (a long club) and a great battle ensued, Kupe was very strong and as fast as the fastest wind, his fighting skill was famous but Te Wheke had eight arms and was quick also.
On they fought, on and on, striking, blocking, spinning out of the way, again and again, sometimes the eye unable to track what was happening, arms and Taiaha spinning everywhere.
This great struggle moved across Te Moana Nui a Kiwa, the great ocean of Kiwa (the Pacific Ocean), till Kupe managed to bring Te Wheke to Te Tau Ihu (the Northern part of the South Island) and with greater effort began to land more blows against Te Wheke.
Great gouges were carved out of the land and the sea rushed-into these gouges during the titanic struggle, till Te Wheke began to weaken, and tire.
Realising his doom Te Wheke became more and more desperate to get away, the motion of his many arms backing away caused great boulders to be churned up in a long line.
Kupe could sense victory.
Leaping into the air Kupe brought all his weight to bear and delivered the mortal blow with such force that Te Wheke was killed outright, splitting him into two.
When Te Wheke was split his eyes landed in other parts of the Te Tau Ihu region. When they landed they turned to rock, one of the rocks is next to Arapawa Island in the Tori Channel and it is said to be bad luck to gaze upon the "eye of the octopus" if you are a first time traveller on the Raukawa Moana (the Cook Strait). The other eye landed at Ngawhatu, a small valley at the back of Stoke.
The full name of the valley is Nga Whatu o Te Wheke o Muturangi (The Eyes of The Octopus Of Muturangi).
Both rocks/eyes have been studied and neither are geologically compatible with their surroundings, their composition is not natural to the areas they're in.
Today, the gouges that were carved in the land by Te Wheke are named the Marlborough Sounds, and the churned up boulders were how the Nelson Boulder Banks were formed. The Ngawhatu valley (located behind Stoke, Nelson) was so named due to the hills that were formed by the body of Te Wheke being split in two.

So now I'm more familiar with this group work thingie wingie I now know what to expect next time we do group work even though we still are doing our Art group activities

Thank you and bye!

Ireland

Ireland and Its spectacular from its glorious castles to its breath-taking cliff formation, is amazing.

My country for the cricket world cup is Ireland, as you can plainly see. Mahon and I have been working hard on this project to complete a slideshow last week, and this week... That's right
POSTER TIME!!!

As you know, last week I completed a slideshow, and I was totally amazed at all the scenery Ireland holds

Ireland Castle

Any visitor to Ireland must see at least one of the hundreds of castles. Bunratty Castle is my personal favorite. This castle is the most complete and least damaged Ireland castle. It was built in 1425 and restored in 1954.

Bunratty Castle

Moher Cliff is another unforgettable sight of Ireland. Travelers bear through cold and heavy fog to see this natural beauty, looking out into the Atlantic ocean. Despite its beauty it's also verry dangerous! without any borders that stop you from falling over the edge it does make you feel quite vulnerable!

One version of the legend tells that Fionn fell asleep before he got to Scotland. When he did not arrive, the much larger Benandonner crossed the bridge looking for him. To protect Fionn, his wife Oonagh laid a blanket over him so he could pretend that he was actually their baby son. In a variation, Fionn fled after seeing Benandonner’s great bulk, and asked his wife to disguise him as the baby. When Benandonner saw the size of the ‘infant’, he assumed the alleged father, Fionn, must be gigantic indeed. Therefore, Benandonner fled home in terror, ripping up the Causeway in case he was followed by Fionn.

I hope you enjoyed reading my blog, and I hope you learned a little bit about Ireland. I think it is a very cool and interesting country to learn about I can't wait to learn more about Ireland and its Location, size, languages, currency, religions and government etc. for my poster!

I look forward to seeing you next time!

Untill then....

Good Bye!!

The things I'm Interested in...

The things I'm interested in?
well, for most of you when I say this you'll probably say....

'well that's an easy one! Everyone knows Tyler likes birds!'

Well... That is true but that's not all I'm interested in, and I'm going to talk to you about my secret like... Unless of course you want me to bore you guys out of your minds, Of countless pages about birds!

Dinosaurs!

Aren't they're amazing! Everything about then is beautiful, every bit of detail is spectacular and unique there are no two species quite like the other.

Dinosaurs lived in a very different world then it is today.
And could see the forever changing earth change before their eyes!

There were tree main time periods dinosaurs went through. Triassic, 251 to 199 million years ago
Jurassic, 199.6 to 145.5 million years ago. And Cretaceous, 145 to 66 million years ago.

Earth in the Triassic Period

The Triassic Period was the first period out of three, that the dinosaurs reined in and existed a mind bobbling 251 to 199 million years ago. The Triassic period followed a great mass extinction of the Permian period.
The climate of the Triassic was generally dry with hot summers and very cold winters. Here the oceans were heavily populated with marine reptiles, only 5% of animals lived on land.

Earth in the Jurassic Period

The Jurassic period, occurring 199.6 to 145.5 million years ago. During the Jurassic period the super continent Pangaea, began to split apart to form two smaller super continents. In the northern half was Laurentia who  will soon become North America and Eurasia, Atlantic and Mexico. In the southern half lay Gondwana who would form Australia, Madagascar, India, Australia, Africa, South America and New Zealand. The Jurassic was also dominated with large forests.

Earth in the Cretaceous Period

The Cretaceous Period was the last and longest period of the dinosaurs. It lasted for approximately 79 million years. The cretaceous is a evolutionary land mark, because during this time flowering plants evolved and with them new species like wasps and bees, which evolved to pollinate these new flowering plants. Birds started to take over the skys, and such variety of predators evolved around this time.

Earth in the Epoch Period
(Earth Today)

?

The Cretaceous Period also marked the end of the dinosaurs,. 65 million years ago and asteroid smashed in the face of the earth! Or that's what they think happened?
To be honest no one knows what actually happened that explained why the dinosaurs disappeared, and that most mammals, turtles, crocodiles, salamanders, and frogs survived. Birds escaped. So did snails, bivalves, sea stars (starfish), and sea urchins. Even hardy plants!

One idea is that small light animals were able to survive because they didn't need to eat as much like the mighty sauropods who had to eat a lot, to sustain their 190 to 240 ton weight!

To be honest no one knows.

But I would like to hear what you guys think happened in the comments section!

Until next time

Here is a cool gif of the continent through time

Welcome Back Guys!

Happy New Year Guys!

Hello and Welcome to intermediate year sevens, and year eights welcome back, I cant wait for an awesome year thins year!
(well I know this is a bit late to say this but I still hope it's memorable to some of you readers. For me personally I am really looking forward to this year. You know like being house captain this year and all...

Year eight are all feeling familiar with this years task system and all you new people out there you
will definitely pick it up soon enough. I love the task system because I love the occasional Challenge The teamwork involved in some weeks and some some times you can be in for a treat!

But there is always a downside, I think its the fact that the three classes don't spend much time together. If I had to change some stuff on how the classes run then I would make room 8, 11, and 12 have more time together and switch for maths and stuff. But we do have three classes now, teachers I don't blame you, but that just confuses everything! I also think that we should do more research activity in buddy's or even groups! Cause I love doing those stuff.

And remember.................

So make the most of 2015!
and wish you all the best of luck year sevens!

GOOD BYE!

Christmas!

Hello people!

Christmas is just around the corner!

meaning that school is about to end..... Really? where has the year gone?

Meaning that Summer is here I'm so exited I love summer! ...Who Doesn't?

So what do I do in the holidays?
well i just practically rest, relax all summer long and that just about sums up my whole holidays. except this time were going to our cousins house for lunch on Christmas day, then over to our Grandparents for dinner like we usually do for a tradition each year, then on boxing day our other Grandparents are coming down from Palmerston North to see us.then they're going back up so we can see them in Palmerston North again, and were staying there for a nights, then where going strait to Taronga at a house we rented for 4 nights then to Auckland for 2 nights at our cousins house then to Taupo for 1 night then back to wellington. few!

To be honest I don't really do a lot of Christmas traditions apart from the fact that we usually go up to our Grandparents house in Palmerston North with most of our cousins every second year but this year were staying at our other Grandparents house for dinner

See Ya & Happy holidays (this is my last blog post for the year)

stand strong! message form the shag!
